Acai is a small, exotic fruit full of benefits, but still relatively unknown in France and Europe in general. Find out more about this Amazonian nugget in these 4 questions and answers:
What does acai taste like?
The taste of acai is unique, a cross between red fruit and cocoa. The stone makes up over 90% of the fruit, making it impossible to eat fresh. The thin layer of flesh surrounding the pit is extracted and immediately frozen to preserve its taste and properties.
What are the benefits of acai?
Acai has a multitude of benefits, this fruit is rich in :
- Minerals: acai contains manganese, copper, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. These minerals provide numerous benefits, and in particular help to produce energy during exercise.
- Fiber: Fiber has an appetite-suppressant effect, which is why acai provides a feeling of satiety for several hours. It also facilitates and slows digestion, reducing the rise in blood sugar levels after a meal.
- Antioxidants: acai has 5 times more antioxidant power than pomegranate and blueberry. It slows cell ageing, which helps keep skin young and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
- Omegas 3, 6 and 9: acai is rich in omegas 6 and 9. This unique blend provides healthy energy that helps improve blood circulation and reduce bad cholesterol levels, thereby lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.
What's more, our acai is picked from wild trees in the Amazon rainforest. All production is certified organic, and no chemicals are used. This agro-forestry cultivation helps preserve the forest and its biodiversity.
How to eat acai
Acai is a fruit that can be eaten in several forms: pulp, powder, sorbet, juice or mix. However, if you're looking for an icy smoothie texture and want to discover the real taste of the acai berry as in Brazil, we recommend acai pulp, which is both gourmet and, when blended, brings a creamy texture to your bowl.
Recipe for a simple and delicious acai bowl:
In a blender, blend 200 g frozen acai pulp with a banana and a dash of water. Pour the resulting mixture into a bowl and top with toppings: granola, coconut shavings, nuts, seeds...
Is acai caloric?
Acai is very low in sugar, with a glycemic load close to zero when the average fruit is around 15%. What sets this exotic fruit apart, however, is its high lipid content (12%), which distinguishes it from fresh fruit, which is virtually lipid-free. The advantage of these fats lies in their quality, with a high oleic acid (Omega 9) content of 56.2%. These are also the fatty acids found in olives and olive oil (hence the name "oleic"), for which the famous Mediterranean diet is famous. These unsaturated fats help maintain normal levels of total cholesterol in the blood (cardio-protective effect).
Another point to note in the composition of acai berries is their fiber content (2.4g/100g), well above the average for other fruits, which is around 1-2g/100g!
