L’açaí est une baie qui pousse au sommet de palmiers pinots ou palmiers açaí. Ces palmiers peuvent atteindre jusqu’à 20 mètres de hauteur et poussent plus facilement dans les zones marécageuses.
The regions that offer ideal conditions for the growth of these trees are along the tributaries of the Amazon. Notably in North-East Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana and North-East Brazil. These regions have ideal temperature and precipitation conditions.
95% of the açaí production is harvested from wild palm trees. The açaí harvest is done by hand by the local people from August to December. The pickers climb the trees with the strength of their legs and with the help of a vegetable rope.
After harvesting, the berries are removed from the bunches, sorted and stored in large plant baskets. As roads are almost non-existent in the Amazon, these large baskets are transported to the markets by boat at night, when temperatures are lower, to ensure better preservation of the fruit. Most of the açaí production ends up in Belém, a city located on the Amazon estuary. Every night the port area is bustling with activity. All trade takes place between 1 am and 9 am. By 9am there is no more açaí bay for sale and bars, restaurants, ice-cream parlours of the whole region start to be supplied with açaí to be served the same day. The açaí from Nossa is then transported from this place to France where it will be used to make Nossa products. The transport is done by boat, which limits the carbon footprint!
Once made, the last step of Nossa drinks is to be in your hands, to bring you the gourmet and natural break at any time of the day!
