We've got great news!

Ahhhhh, finally some good news for this second winter dictated by covid. Add to this the usual little ailments and we're good to go home to hibernate until spring.

So don't worry! We've got a solution, maybe not a miracle one, but one that will boost our morale and our immune system!

We asked Julie Lioré, freelance science writer, to find out if the benefits of acai could help us fight winter ailments?

And here's his answer:

Prevent and support winter illnesses with acai

As the days grow shorter, darker and colder, energy levels and morale tend to drop, weakening immunity and opening the door to winter infections, symptomatic of the cold season. Both body and spirit are put to the test, and need to be supported. As a preventive measure, to avoid falling ill, or as a curative measure, in the midst of a viral infection, it is essential to provide the body with sufficient vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. However, the food supply at this time of year, such as nutrient-rich fruit and vegetables, is more frugal.
No need to worry. Acai, the little Amazonian berry with its astonishing nutrient content, is ideal for preventing and supporting winter illness. Harvested from August to December, the berries are immediately pulped and the pulp frozen, to preserve all their benefits. In this way, the flesh of the fruit is available all year round. Whether you're in good health, tired or suffering, acai pulp, stored in the freezer or blended and combined with other fruits, is as convenient to use in a variety of preparations as it is delicious to eat. The chocolatey red fruit flavour in itself is a healthy glow remedy.

Amazing nutrient content

Among other things, omega-3, -6 and -9 help to improve the quality of the immune system, the front line in combating pathogens that have infiltrated the body or disease that has taken hold. The acai berry has an exceptional lipid (fat) content for a fruit that generally contains little or none.

Copper has a proven anti-bacterial and anti-viral action. This trace element is also an immunostimulant, i.e. it promotes the development of antibodies, thus increasing resistance to microbial infections. It also supports the adrenal glands, which, when weakened, give a feeling of overall fatigue. Finally, copper potentiates vitamin C, which acts as an immune modulator, boosting macrophages and lymphocytes, the first line of defence in viral pathologies.

Acai's high fiber content is also a godsend for health at this time of year. Fermentable, insoluble fiber cannot be assimilated by the body, but it nourishes the microbiota, the cornerstone of the immune system. A well-nourished microbiota enables a considerable number of bio-chemical reactions or functions, such as better absorption of nutrients from the diet, protection against pathogens (particularly viruses and bacteria), good management of fat storage (and therefore weight), and a significant role in emotional management.

What's more, the high antioxidant potential of acai berries makes them protective and restorative at all levels of the body, so they play a major role in overall health.

The pulp of acai berries is therefore particularly recommended during the cold season, to help you stay in good health, providing your body with what it needs and your morale with what it needs to get through the winter.

What a reassuring feeling! Get ready for winter!
