What introduced you to the love of food and cooking?
Growing up in Southern California had so much to do with it. In the garden, we had a lemon tree and a fig tree. I love to garden and grow my own vegetables.
This philosophy of growing and homemaking has been ingrained in me since I was very young.
In addition, I grew up on the set of the TV show "Married with Children", where my father was the lighting director. I would help prepare the food trays and bring them in. I noticed how happy the food could make you feel. It was great and it definitely marked my love of cooking and sharing.
How did your childhood in California influence the way you eat?
Fresh, fresh, fresh. We are so spoiled here with all our resources, and my love for simple things and homemade dishes is completely connected to that. And the diet also tends to be healthier: açai bowls, green juices, salads, perfect sushi, grilled fish tacos... That's all that reminds me of home.
Something you secretly like to eat?
I like fries, but there's no shame in it. But you know what I really like is macaroni and cheese.
I buy it from Annie's and I add frozen peas to it. It's a very regressive dish!
I used to cook them when I was babysitting. I'd eat it with them and feel like a kid.
I'm not opposed to eating dolphin apples either. With ketchup and sriracha.
What's your breakfast routine?
Acai bowl, detox juice... If I'm in a hotel, I often order poached eggs and avocado toast.
You'd be lost in your kitchen without...
My Vitamix and my Japanese knife.
What's your "on-the-go" recipe that you could do with your eyes closed?
Cacio e pepe pasta (pasta with cheese and pepper sauce)... So easy.
Five ingredients you can't live without?
Maldon sea salt, Terroni-marinated peppers, almond milk, Meyer lemons and olive oil.
Your last unusual culinary experience?
Go sea urchin fishing in Jamaica and enjoy them fresh from the ocean.
How do you feel when you cook or eat?
Loved and lucky.
What would be the menu for your ultimate "Food Day"? And who would you spend it with?
Breakfast with blueberry Johnny Cakes (cornmeal pancakes) with extra crispy bacon and maple syrup.
At lunch, a grilled fish tacos (Spanish wine). And dinner would be a faux-filet with sautéed broccoli (or a bowl of cavatelli pasta).
And for the "with whom", they know who they're with...
The Acai Bowl by Meghan Markle
Mix 100 g frozen acai pulp with 75 ml almond milk, ½ banana and a handful of frozen red fruits.
Pour into a bowl and garnish with coconut shavings, fresh berries, banana slices, a drizzle of manuka honey and pollen, and enjoy immediately.
Le conseil de Meghan pour un açai bowl ontueux et frais plus longtemps : placez préalablement votre bol au congélateur, puis servez l’açaí dedans.
